It is a great honour and privilege to be your President for 2024, I have been bowling for over 37 years now, after first joining Old Newton and then Stowmarket Rookery, 20 of these years in the Stowmarket League, I have been very fortunate to play at the highest level, with some exceptional bowlers
When I look back at the list of Past Presidents of this League I certainly have become a member of a very exclusive club and hope I can uphold the tradition set before me
Bowls has been a big part of my life both competitive and friendly, I have met and made friends with so many people and hopefully meet more in my Presidential year
This year would not be possible for me without the help and support of my club, Stowmarket Rookery which I am truly thankful for, and also your hardworking Committee who make this League the success it is
I look forward meeting as many Stowmarket League Bowlers as I can this year and hope to see a good turnout at my Presidents Day, where I hope to have a Grand Draw with the proceeds going to Guide Dogs

Little did I think when I started my bowling journey over 40 years ago, that I would have the honour of becoming President of the Stowmarket and District Bowls League. Thorndon Bowls Club invited me to have my first try at bowling in 1978 and steadily nurtured me into being able to play competitively and I vividly remember my first game at Electric Sports green in Great Finborough. From then on, Thorndon gave me every encouragement to develop my game, both within the Club and then onto playing in, and eventually Captaining, the Stowmarket Interleague team. Both my Club and our League gave me a great foundation that enabled me to represent Suffolk for many years and gain one or two personal titles along the way. I am sure you will then appreciate just how much the Stowmarket League means to me and the privilege I feel in representing the League as your President in 2023. Last year, we saw our individual competitions get underway again and I encourage you all to enter in 2023, to get us back on track again, following some very challenging years. Alongside that, I intend to carry on Matthew’s vision of attracting more youngsters into the game. My President’s Day this year will be held, at Thorndon Bowls Club, on Saturday 12th August 2023 and I hope every Club in the League will be able to participate. I would like to give my thanks to Matthew for the way he fulfilled the role last year and I look forward to meeting you all and working alongside my President Elect, Shirley Plummer, during the bowling season.

I am very proud and honoured to be the Stowmarket League President for 2022. I would firstly like to thank my club, Ixworth Bowls Club, for putting me forward as president. This is a position which is a little daunting for me, but one which I relish the opportunity of having
It is really nice to see bowls return to some normality, with the reintroduction of the Interleague, as well as Stowmarket League competitions, which of course means Stowmarket League Finals days. It will be a real honour for me to host these games in the coming season.
I am very much looking forward to meeting and greeting you all wherever I go, whether that be on or off the green. I will do my best to visit all affiliated clubs and promote the Stowmarket League wherever I can, however, due to being a working president, this may not always be possible. My Presidents Day this year will be held on Saturday 6th August.
As a younger president my aim is to promote bowls as a sport for younger people. I hope to see more youngsters taking up the sport in the coming years. That would be really nice to see.
The past few years have been unprecedented, but it is only by working together that we can become greater than the sum of our parts. Let's work together to make sure that 2022 is a bowls season to remember.
